The newer compiler toolchain of Amazon Linux 2023 can mean slower build times though. From GCC 7 to GCC 11 are many new optimizations and other compiler features that increase build times in exchange for faster run-time performance, better code warnings/errors, and similar benefits.

The shift from using OpenSSL 1.0.2 by default to now using the OpenSSL 3.0 series meant some very nice speed-ups.

Workloads like PostgreSQL and Memcached didn't see much change out of this Amazon Linux upgrade on AWS Graviton3.
