Radeon Open-Source vs. Catalyst With OpenCL CLPEAK

First up is clpeak's kernel latency test.

The Catalyst driver has significantly lower latency for its OpenCL kernels than the current open-source Radeon driver stack. On this system it was a matter of about a 100 microsecond difference.

When testing the raw integer compute performance, the results between the open-source and closed-source drivers were nearly identical. However, keep in mind that this is a very basic, raw performance OpenCL test. Clpeak isn't about running complex, real-world kernels but just testing the peak potential / limits of the OpenCL adapters.

The single-precision float performance was also similar between the two AMD Linux drivers.
