AMD Ryzen 5 4500U Benchmarks - Previously Unimaginable Performance For Sub-$600 Laptops

Here's a look at how the Ryzen 5 4500U in the form of the Lenovo Flex 5 14-inch on Ubuntu 20.04 is performing:

The Ryzen 5 4500U six-core processor was just behind the eight-core Ryzen 7 4700U for NAMD. The Ryzen 5 4500U even outperformed the once high-end Intel Core i7 6700HQ Skylake CPU found within the Apple MacBook Pro and other devices. For a $600 laptop, the performance already is quite admirable.

With the LAMMPS molecular dynamics simulator, the Ryzen 5 4500U was even faster than the Core i7 9750H... Even affordable AMD laptops these days can be of use to scientists.

With Intel's own OSPray ray-tracing software, the Ryzen 5 4500U performance was still coming out quite decent and in this case comparable to the Core i7 6700HQ.

For those on older laptops like the Broadwell CPUs tested, the Ryzen 5 4500U can be a big upgrade.
