Intel's OSPRay engine was enjoying the best power efficiency with the X3D series processors compared to the 7900X/7950X.

In some creator programs like RawTherapee the Core i9 13900K managed to lead in raw performance but came at an impact of much higher power consumption.

The open-source OpenFOAM computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software is one of the real-world workloads really loving AMD 3D V-Cache. The Ryzen 9 7900X3D execution time with OpenFOAM was faster than both the Ryzen 9 7950X and Core i9 13900K.

The Ryzen 9 7900X3D was also consuming far less power than those processors too... A follow-up article later this week or next is looking at the 7900X3D/7950X3D in more CFD workloads and other areas where these desktop CPUs can make a lot of sense for technical computing.

ASKAP is another workload also loving 3D V-Cache.
