AMD Ryzen AI Max+ "Strix Halo" Delivers Best Performance On Linux Over Windows 11 - Even With Gaming

Moving to CPU workloads for tasking the sixteen Zen 5 cores found on this laptop, Ubuntu 25.04 showed its edge. With the lighter workloads Windows 11 can do well but when pushing the CPU harder is where Linux tends to shine... WebP image encoding is a good example here with similar results between Windows and Ubuntu at the lower quality image encode settings but a very significant lead for Ubuntu in the most demanding configurations.

A tight race with the TSCP chess benchmark.

As we are used to seeing on other processors from both AMD and Intel, when it comes to creator workloads like 3D renderers on the CPU, Linux can shoot well past the performance offerings of Windows 11 out-of-the-box.

Very strong showing for AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395 on Linux in creator workloads.
