AMD Strix Point Performance Continues Evolving Nicely With Ubuntu 25.10
With the relevant JetStream 2 web browser benchmark on Firefox, there wasn't much difference from Ubuntu 25.04 to Ubuntu 25.10 but interestingly there was a small performance improvement when running on the yet-to-be-formally-released Linux 6.18 kernel. The performance is a lot better than at launch day but the CPU power has also increased on the newer Linux kernel, but still the best performance-per-Watt is with Ubuntu 25.10 as a nice improvement there for Strix Point laptop performance-per-Watt.
The WebAssembly (WASM) performance is much better on Ubuntu 25.10 with the latest Firefox while also being more power efficient too than previous tests / Ubuntu releases.
There were also improvements to the compiler speed on Ubuntu 25.10 with its GCC 15.2 compiler upgrade. Moving to Linux 6.18 did further enhance the build speed but also with increased power use -- but still better power efficiency than last July.
In the case of the Blender 3D modeling software, the launch day performance remained the fastest but was consuming significantly more power than compared to the newer Ubuntu releases that are better optimized for power efficiency.
It was a similar story with the Embree ray-tracing kernels from Intel where the launch day performance was the best but newer Linux kernels / Ubuntu releases delivered much better performance-per-Watt.
