AMD Threadripper 9980X + 9970X Linux Benchmarks: Incredible Workstation Performance
For much the same reasons Threadripper 9000 series performs excellent for AI workloads with faster DDR5 memory, full 512-bit data path AVX-512, and more, it also makes a compelling case for the Threadripper 9970X and 9980X for HPC/scientific workloads. In cases like NAMD 3.0 the Threadripper 9970X performance was matching or exceeding the prior-generation 7980X flagship.
There is the AMD EPYC 9005 series for those engaging really demanding HPC workloads consistently or even the Threadripper PRO 9000WX series with eight channel memory, but in the Threadripper 9000 space these new 9970X and 9980X processors are mighty impressive with their raw performance and power efficiency relative to the other processors.
Very nice generational performance and energy efficiency improvements for the Threadripper 9000 series that can work as a drop-in replacement to existing Threadripper 7000 series workstations.
