For our testing we were using Ubuntu 8.10 x86_64 with the Linux 2.6.27 kernel, X Server 1.5.2, and the Catalyst 9.2 driver. Catalyst 9.2 (fglrx 8.58.2, OpenGL 2.1.8494 FireGL) for Linux did not deliver many exciting changes, but a month prior OpenGL 3.0 support came to Linux. With Catalyst 9.2 for Linux we had no problems running the ATI FirePro V8700 in one of our workstation test systems.

Our workstation system was made up of dual quad-core AMD Opteron 2384 processors, Tyan Thunder n3600M motherboard (NVIDIA nForce 3600 Professional Chipset), 4GB of DDR2 memory, a 160GB WDC WD1600YS-01SHB1 SATA HDD, SilverStone Decathlon 800W power supply, and a Samsung SyncMaster 305T 30-inch LCD. The Opteron 2384 is based upon AMD's Shanghai 45nm core and is clocked at 2.70GHz per core. With the SyncMaster 305T we were using the dual-link DVI connection, but the DisplayPort outputs are fully supported under Linux using the Catalyst driver.
