Apple M4 Mac Mini With macOS vs. Intel / AMD With Ubuntu Linux Performance
With the C-Ray CPU-based ray-tracer the Apple M4 Mac Mini 10-core performance was just ahead of the 8-core Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor but doing so while sipping power in comparison to the Intel/AMD CPUs.
With the Appleseed renderer the M4 Mac Mini performance was behind the AMD/Intel CPUs but in this case Appleseed is still relying on x86_64 Rosetta emulation on macOS with Apple Silicon. Even so the the results are rather favorable for the Apple M4 when factoring the power efficiency.
The proprietary V-RAY renderer on the Apple Mac Mini M4 with macOS was slower than the Intel/AMD Linux environments but with the M4 delivering easily the best performance-per-Watt.
It was a similar story with the proprietary IndigoBench renderer except for power efficiency the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 was matching the Apple M4.
