OS X 10.8 vs. Ubuntu Linux: A Battle With No Clear Winner

The MAFFT molecular biology software was much faster on Ubuntu 12.04 than OS X when using the default compiler on each operating system.
Ubuntu had a slight advantage over OS X when it came to Fhourstones.
OS X was doing very well for the C-based SciMark 2.0 test cases and generally faster than Ubuntu Linux.
