ASUS Zenbook S 16 UM5606WA Platform Profile Impact On Performance & Power
Across some 60 benchmarks used for this round of testing looking at the platform profile impact on the ASUS Zenbook S 16 UM5606WA, here is the geometric mean of all the raw performance data. Switching to the performance mode increased the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 laptop's performance by 5% overall, but it largely depends upon what workloads you care about for whether the gains are ultimately worthwhile. When switching to the power saver mode the laptop was running at 97% that of the default (balanced) performance.
When looking at the CPU SoC power consumption across the entire span of benchmarks conducted, the performance mode led to just a 1 Watt increase on average and a peak power consumption 5 Watts higher. In the power saver mode the average was similar to the default/balanced mode but more time was spent in the lower performance states.
When looking at the peak CPU frequency achieved across the entire duration of benchmarking, the performance mode did understandably lead to more time spent in the higher performance states (higher frequency) while even in the power saver mode it was still hitting the top frequencies / performance state but less often than in the balanced or performance modes.
And lastly a look at the CPU thermals for the entire span of testing with the performance mode on average running just around one degree warmer.
As we've seen with other laptops, running in the performance mode can help make sure your AMD Ryzen AI 300 series laptop is achieving maximum performance if so desired while those wanting to maximize their device's power efficiency can run in power saver mode for conserving a bit of power and often leading in power efficiency. The balanced mode on the ASUS Zenbook S 16 laptop was very reasonable for the right mix of power and performance.
