The Azure HBv5 performance was immediately exceeding my expectations for HPC workloads. There was astounding generational gains from HBv4 to HBv5 thanks to the AMD EPYC CPUs with HBM3 memory in place of DDR5 memory.

The performance uplift for this one generation from Azure HBv4 to HBv5 was phenomenal thanks to the EPYC 9V64H with HBM3 memory. For those wondering how this stacks up against 5th Gen AMD EPYC "Turin" with DDR5 memory, I will have some comparison benchmarks in a follow-up article once running some fresh 1:1 comparison benchmarks against my EPYC Turin hardware locally. I will also have another follow-up article looking further back at the Azure HPC performance beyond just this single generation comparison.

For memory-intensive HPC applications, the Azure HBv5 series with AMD EPYC 9V64H is an absolute game-changer for performance.
