FreeBSD & DragonFlyBSD Put Up A Strong Fight On AMD's Threadripper 2990WX, Benchmarks Against Linux

The OpenMP-based GraphicsMagick performance tended to side with Linux, but it was a competitive battle. With the imaging operations that scale well across multiple threads, the BSDs with GCC were performing faster than the Clang OpenMP support and in some of those cases were neck-and-neck with CentOS and Ubuntu.

With the Stockfish chess engine benchmark, FreeBSD 12.0-ALPHA1 had a small speed advantage over the three tested Linux distributions. DragonFlyBSD 5.3 was running in line with the Linux distributions.

DragonFlyBSD on its older GCC 5.4.1 compiler scored a very slim win with C-Ray ray-tracing followed by the Linux distributions.

While Ubuntu and openSUSE ended up being the fastest with the Primesieve benchmark.
