As the Dbench client count increased, so did the benefits to using Zlib/LZO compression, but still it was not hugely beneficial in this workload and the Zlib and LZO compression performance was largely the same.

With FS-Mark on the 1000 1MB file test, Zlib compression led to handling files 33% faster than using no compression at all, while using LZO compression was just an extra percent or so faster.

When running the same FS-Mark disk test but disabling the sync/fsync, LZO compression was several times faster than Zlib. In fact, LZO was more than three times faster than Zlib and more than seven times faster than Btrfs at its Linux 2.6.38 defaults.
