Initial Benchmarks Of CentOS 8.0 & CentOS Stream On Intel Xeon / AMD EPYC
Even running Blender with the generic Linux x86_64 binaries on each CentOS release accounts for some nice gains on CentOS 8.0/Stream.
The Apache performance is also moving nicely in the right direction.
If sticking to the default PHP packages and not otherwise building PHP yourself or using third-party packages, the move to CentOS 8.0 is fantastic... Finally moving from PHP 5 to PHP 7.
Long story short, in many workloads CentOS 8.0 is a big deal performance wise over CentOS 7 / RHEL7 for those sticking close to the default package set. The EPYC 7742 2P performance is up by 38% while the Xeon Platinum 8280 2P performance is up by 33% from the geometric mean of the dozens of tests carried out.
As for CentOS Stream, at this stage it didn't represent any measurable performance difference due to the close proximity to the state of CentOS 8.0.
