Healthy Competition With GCC 15 vs. LLVM Clang 20 Performance On AMD Zen 5
Clang on Linux x86_64 remains very competitive with GCC for the performance of the resulting binaries. In the case of Etcpak there was a nice speed-up with Clang 20 to put it slightly ahead of the GCC performance.
With the Quicksilver OpenMP HPC benchmark though was some regressions on Clang 20 for this AMD EPYC Zen 5 server where it came out slower than Clang 19. But compared to GCC is remaining competitive.
In some of the SMHasher benchmarks were some wins on the Clang side while in other wins with GCC and then the rest of the time was overall very healthy competition between these open-source compilers.
