For some of the disk workloads, Squeeze is faster than Wheezy. However, in the past two years, Debian GNU/Linux switched over to using the EXT4 file-system rather than EXT3. Increased precautions to fend off against potential data-loss with EXT4 have led to slowdowns in the file-system, albeit it is safer.
