It should come as no surprise now, but the Linux-based operating systems also were noticeably faster for John The Ripper's Blowfish implementation.
At least with VP8 libvpx video encoding the Debian GNU/kFreeBSD performance nearly matched that of Debian GNU/Linux.
However, Debian GNU/kFreeBSD did not perform as nicely when it came to H.264 video encoding via the x264 program.
Under Himeno, the BSD-based operating systems dropped sharply in their performance capabilities compared to Linux.
