Server/Workstation Tests: Antergos vs. Clear Linux vs. Fedora vs. Scientific Linux vs. Ubuntu vs. openSUSE
The performance-focused Clear Linux returned to running in front when it came to the Redis performance.
For the PHPbench testing, Clear Linux was out in front. As covered recently, Clear Linux has optimized its PHP bundle using Profile Guided Optimizations (PGO) for squeezing out a few percent more performance. Scientific Linux 7.3 is notable the slowest test case due to EL7 still using PHP 5 by default rather than PHP 7.
With the Phoronix Test Suite self test, measuring uncached PHP performance from the CLI, Clear Linux was the fastest distribution tested.
The render test is the most important metric of the Phoronix Test Suite's own self-test. The render test times the calculation of rendering a lot of SVG graphs in PHP using the native XML support, PHP DOM, etc. It's the heaviest part of the Phoronix Test Suite for obvious reasons and its performance is also important as the pts_Graph is utilized too by OpenBenchmarking.org and Phoromatic, so it also affects how quickly the graphs are served when viewing Phoronix, such as these test results. Clear Linux pulled out a narrow first place finish over the other distributions.
