Firefox 141 Beta Lowering RAM Use On Linux But Still Benchmarking Behind Chrome
Across various WebAssembly benchmarks were also around 200~300MB less RAM when using Firefox 141 Beta compared to the new Firefox 140 stable release.
While I didn't spot any browser benchmark performance improvements out of Firefox 141 Beta, at least there were not any regressions and the big winner was the lower RAM use of this Firefox 141 build.
Running Firefox 141 Beta on Linux was showing 200~300MB lower RAM use. That was with this single tab/window operation while hopefully with more tabs and extensive daily use will show much greater memory savings for Firefox on Linux.
Firefox 141 is currently in beta while the stable release is scheduled to ship around 22 July. Here's to hoping there will be further performance optimizations to come this year for Mozilla Firefox on Linux.
You probably are wondering how this compares then to Google Chrome on Ubuntu Linux... So I ran some comparison tests there as well.
