Firefox vs. Chrome Browser Performance On Intel Ice Lake + Power/Memory Usage Tests
In the end of all these browser benchmarks carried out, Chrome 78 was about 34% faster than Firefox 70 on this Dell Ice Lake laptop. When using Firefox 70 with WebRender enabled, Chrome 78 was faster by about 18%.
Using Firefox with WebRender where more of the work is punted to the GPU did provide some power savings on average but that also led to the highest peak power usage.
When monitoring the overall RAM power consumption of the laptop during testing, using Chrome led to around 100MB savings on average.
For those weighing the power efficiency between the browsers, Chrome 78 had a 27% advantage or just 7% compared to Firefox with WebRender.
