Power & Performance Tuning For The Framework 13 With AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series
For web browser tests like Speedometer 3 under Firefox, the performance profile did allow achieving slightly better performance than the default balanced mode but at the cost of higher power use. In the low-power profile, the performance was nearly halved but the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 power use dropped from a 15 Watt average down to 6 Watts, which in turn led to it enjoying the best performance-per-Watt. Similarly, the low-power mode led to the Framework 13 operating cooler than both of the other modes.
It was a similar story with Google Chrome of the performance profile as expected delivering slightly better performance. Or if you really want to maximize your battery life / power efficiency, the low-power mode can really tame the Strix Point SoC on the Framework Laptop 13.
It was a similar story across the other web browser benchmarks conducted within Firefox and Chrome atop Ubuntu Linux: if wanting to squeeze the most out of the performance, go with the performance profile while the low-power mode does lead to greater power efficiency if needing to maximize your battery life on the road. Really not surprising but now you have some hard numbers to quantify it for this latest-generation Framework Laptop 13.
