Framework Laptop 12: An Upgrade-Friendly, Convertible 2-in-1 Linux Laptop
With the Speedometer 3.0 browser benchmark running under Mozilla Firefox, the Framework 12 with Core i5 1334U was performing similar to an Intel Core i7 1165G7 Ice Lake laptop (Dell XPS 13). Not too surprising given the i5-1334U having just two P cores and the remainder being low-power E cores. But at least from an energy efficiency perspective the results were competitive in the CPU performnace-per-Watt. The Framework Laptop 12 was only behind the Intel Lunar Lake laptops tested on the Intel side or AMD Strix Point and ahead of all the other Intel SoCs tested in performance-per-Watt. Framework Computer presumably avoided going with Lunar Lake for the Framework 12 to allow for upgradeable memory plus Raptor Lake U being lower-cost than the latest Lunar Lake.
With the Jetstream 2 benchmark under Mozilla Firefox on Ubuntu 25.04, the Framework 12 raw performance continued to run similar to Tiger Lake but with power efficiency comparable to AMD Strix Point and in turn behind Lunar Lake but at least much better performance-per-Watt than older Intel laptop generations.
It was a similar outcome when looking at the Google Chrome browser performance on Ubuntu 25.04 with the Framework Laptop 12.
The Framework Laptop 12 has a decent balance of performance and good power efficiency for web browser use under Linux for this 12-inch laptop/convertible.
