Linux 7.1 Helping Intel Arc Battlemage Graphics Achieve Better Performance
Quake II RTX with Vulkan ray-tracing was performing better on Linux 7.1 compared to Linux 7.0 as shipped by default on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.
In the case of Llama.cpp with the Vulkan back-end, there wasn't any real performance benefit out of using Linux 7.1 but there are some significant speed-ups to find with Intel ANV for Llama.cpp on Mesa 26.1, especially around the text generation speed.
In workstation visualization software there were also some performance gains to find for the Intel Arc B580 when running on Linux 7.1.
I wasn't expecting to see Linux 7.1 delivering performance gains for the Intel Arc B580 so I am currently conducting more Xe2/Xe3 tests on Linux 7.1 such as for Panther Lake and the Intel Arc Pro B70 hardware to see how other Intel hardware is performing with this soon-to-be-released kernel.
