Intel Raptor Lake 0x129 CPU Microcode Performance Impact On Linux
Over the course of the 188 benchmarks the results were flat overall with no significant change to the Intel Core i9 14900K performance at large. But in some single-threaded tests there did end up being a measurable difference.
WireGuard showed the biggest hit to performance at around 10% but then consistently across each and every one of the Python scripting benchmarks was a 6~9% hit to the performance compared to using the prior ASUS BIOS release. The Perl benchmarks also showed a similar hit to Python. Similar in scope to WireGuard, the cryptsetup cryptography benchmarks also showed hits across the board to performance. In the 100+ other benchmarks there was no measurable performance difference or just falling within the 1~3% range that may be system noise and other factors.
That's where things stand right now for my Intel Raptor Lake testing with the new 0x129 microcode. I continue exploring with more hardware and an even larger number of workloads / benchmarks.
