Intel Iris Pro Linux Performance Doubles With Driver Upgrades

The performance improvements yielded by upgrading Mesa and the Linux kernel are very apparent for maximizing the OpenGL performance of Intel Iris Pro 5200 graphics and other Haswell-based parts on Linux. For those wanting to stick to Ubuntu 13.04 but want to upgrade easily to the latest Intel Linux open-source graphics code, Oibaf's PPA makes it easy for user-space and there's also the Ubuntu mainline kernel PPA. Commonly the upgraded driver stack meant in the area of twice the OpenGL performance as found out of the box on Ubuntu 13.04, the latest stable release of the popular desktop Linux distribution.

While there's some very apparent performance improvements that can be achieved right now in checking out the latest code, there's still more ground to cover with Intel Haswell Linux graphics being slower than Windows -- more tests are on the way along with the full review of the Galago UltraPro ultrabook from System76.
