Linux 5.14 Features From Secret Memory Areas To New Hardware, Core Scheduling, Legacy IDE Dropped

Storage / File-Systems:

- F2FS improvements including a read-only feature bit, a compress_cache mode for better random read performance, and other compression enhancements.

- Improved exFAT compatibility with some digital camera file-system implementations.

- Improvements to the distributed lock manager.

- EXT4 has a new option to help prevent possible information leakage from the journal.

- Cleanups for XFS.

- Supporting new SD specification features.

- More performance tuning for Btrfs.

Security:

- Support for secret memory areas via memfd_secret.

Other:

- Removal of the RAW driver.

- Hyper-V improvements and other KVM work.

- Various staging changes.

- The OSNoise tracer for helping to trace operating system noise and also improvements to HWLAT for hardware latency debugging.

- Perf preparations for Intel Alder Lake / hybrid CPUs.

- Initial support for ACPI Platform Runtime Mechanism.

- Programmable button support for the HID input driver.

- Linux's legacy IDE code was removed.
