The Performance Benefits Of Linux 6.12 LTS Over Linux 6.6 LTS
The OpenJDK Java performance did see some wins for various workloads running on the Linux 6.12 kernel with this AMD Zen 4 workstation but a few areas did regress.
The Hackbench Linux kernel scheduler benchmark was showing off some of the improvements found over the past year.
The Apache Cassandra performance was about 5% faster on Linux 6.12 than Linux 6.6 for this AMD workstation from System76.
Memcached also clocked in some wins atop Linux 6.12 LTS.
For most of the other workloads tested in this Linux 6.6 LTS vs. Linux 6.12 LTS comparison on this AMD Ryzen Threadripper workstation, the wins of the 2024 Long Term Support kernel were more modest... At least on this AMD Zen 4 class platform. I'll be trying some additional Linux 6.6 vs. Linux 6.12 LTS benchmarks over the holidays to look out for any other interesting wins across different Intel / AMD / Arm hardware.
