Linux RAID Benchmarks With EXT4 + XFS Across Four Samsung NVMe SSDs

RAID0 really paid off across all three file-systems with the multi-threaded FS-Mark run where Btrfs was also able to give a competitive showing compared to FIO.

Btrfs RAID 1/5/10 performance also ended up doing better than MD RAID with EXT4 and XFS for an additional FS-Mark run.

The four-disk RAID configuration for EXT4 and XFS also really paid off for the PostgreSQL database server while the Btrfs performance was back in a regressed state. XFS for this database benchmark performs extremely well.

If you would like to compare your own Linux system(s) storage performance to the benchmarks found in this article, it's incredibly easy to do so using the open-source Phoronix Test Suite automated benchmarking software by simply running phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1808205-RA-SAMSUNGQU86.
