So for those wondering if still upgrading your Linux kernel will benefit your OpenGL gaming performance for old Radeon hardware, it doesn't really appear that way from the tests conducted on the AMD Phenom 9500 system with Radeon X1800XT graphics on the modern R300g Mesa driver.
