Currently at $179 USD from Amazon.com (affiliate link), I decided to buy a motherboard in advance in case of any price increases by the time the 3mdeb port is ready. For now this MSI PRO B850-P WIFI motherboard is working out fine under Linux with its proprietary firmware.

The MSI PRO B850-P WIFI provides four DDR5 memory slots, PCI Express 5.0 x16 and an additional PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, PCIe Gen5 M.2 NVMe SSD onboard, 5G LAN, WiFi 7, and all the other common features of AMD Ryzen AM5 motherboards. The most exciting and unique aspect of this motherboard is that 3mdeb is independently bringing openSIL + Coreboot to it.

The 5Gb Ethernet on the motherboard is via the Realtek 8126VB that depends upon the r8126 network driver in Linux 6.10+. The WiFi 7 chipset on this motherboard is the Qualcomm NCM865 that will work fine if on Linux 6.15+. Long story short, make sure to be using a recent Linux kernel when playing with new hardware but the likes of Ubuntu 25.10 or the upcoming Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and Fedora Workstation 44 should be in good shape for this motherboard.

👁 MSI PRO B850-P AMD Ryzen motherboard

At around $179 USD, the MSI PRO B850-P WIFI motherboard is a competitively priced AMD Ryzen AM5 ATX desktop motherboard option. What makes it unique is the work being done by 3mdeb to bring Coreboot/Dasharo with AMD openSIL to it. Keeping in mind that openSIL is currently "proof of concept" and won't be official until the next-gen (Zen 6) platforms, you may want to wait to see how this port turns out before investing in the motherboard -- or waiting to potentially buy a pre-flashed motherboard from 3mdeb. In any event it's currently a one-of-a-kind motherboard to find Coreboot/openSIL with a Ryzen motherboard but hopefully that will change as openSIL matures and rolls out across future plans. Stay tuned for the testing and more details on the Coreboot port for the MSI PRO B850-P WIFI as it comes about in the weeks~months ahead.
