NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Through GeForce RTX 5080/5090 GPU Compute Performance

For FluidX3D with FP32-FP16S compute it's a 9.4x performance difference going from the GeForce GTX 980 to GeForce RTX 590. There's a 3.87x performance-per-Watt improvement too over this span of NVIDIA hardware tested.

It wouuld have been fun too for a side-by-side against the AMD Radeon graphics cards of similar age, but alas the AMD ROCm compute stack support is much more limited and makes such a comparison not possible.

Even with OpenCL synthetic performance tests around the GPU memory bandwidth are fascinating to see in perspective from Maxwell to Blackwell.

It was very exciting running these benchmarks to help put the NVIDIA Maxwell to Blackwell performance in perspective for the past decade of GPU innovations and seeing the decade old NVIDIA GPUs still working out on the NVIDIA Linux driver stack with these fresh benchmarks.
