The GeForce GTX 780 Ti was running at almost 90 FPS at 1920 x 1080 for this OpenGL tech demo that currently serves as the most demanding benchmark on Linux. While I don't have a R9 290X for testing, it's in a similar state to the R9 290 in being a poor performer under Linux.
The GeForce GTX 780 Ti continues to show off nicely in its performance abilities atop Ubuntu Linux.
