NVIDIA's Linux Driver On Ubuntu Is Very Competitive With Windows 8

The Pixmark Piano performance shows really great numbers for Nouveau, but like some of the earlier tests, this is due to faulty (missing) rendering out of the open-source driver.

Overall, the NVIDIA Linux vs. Windows driver performance is very competitive with similar frame-rates between Ubuntu 13.10 Linux and Windows 8 Pro x64. With the newest GeForce GTX 680 "Kepler" graphics card used for benchmarking, the NVIDIA Linux driver even at times was noticeably faster than the NVIDIA Windows driver when both operating systems were using their latest beta drivers.

The Nouveau driver performance was generally very slow, but that's to be expected besides its other shortcomings. Overall, if you're using the binary NVIDIA Linux driver (or on Solaris and FreeBSD too) the level of feature support and performance should be comparable to that of Microsoft Windows.
