AMD RDNA3/RDNA4 Go Down Hard On Linux 6.19, But Here's How The Older AMD GPUs End Out 2025
While the GCN 1.0 Radeom HD 7950 graphics card now uses the AMDGPU driver by default with Linux 6.19,its limited vRAM was slaughtering the playability of the HITMAN game running under Steam Play (Proton) on Linux.
With Batman: Arkham Knight at 1080p low quality settings the Radeon HD 7950 could at least hit above a 60 FPS average with the AMDGPU driver and this Steam Play game running via DXVK+RADV in this case. But even the RDNA1/RDNA2 graphics cards offer tremendously better performance than the older Radeon GPUs.
When it came to the older Radeon graphics cards, not all of them have the necessary sensor support for GPU power consumption reporting. But for those that did here is a look at the power efficiency atop Linux 6.19.
It's too bad the RDNA3/RDNA4 graphics cards were unreliable on Linux 6.19 for being able to complete this comparison.
