Starting with the Gzip compression test, it had taken just over a second longer to compress the 2GB file on OpenSolaris 2008.11, but that different is statistically insignificant. The end-user will not notice whether something takes 128 versus 129 seconds.

With our Tandem XML test, which is a basic XML reader and writer written in PHP for the Phoronix Test Suite, OpenSolaris 2008.11 was just over a second faster at writing many XML files to the disk. With the total times, that ends up being about 3% faster.

The Sunflow Rendering System is powered by Java and deals with global illumination and image synthesis atop a ray-tracing core. With this computationally intensive test, OpenSolaris 2008.11 was about 8% faster than OpenSolaris 2008.05.
