Mesa RADV vs. AMDVLK Vulkan Driver Performance For The AMD Radeon RX 9070 Series
With Counter-Strike 2 the AMDVLK driver had a slight advantage over the Mesa RADV driver state tested. But a rather nice showing with Mesa RADV at launch day already running 96.7% the speed of the AMDVLK driver for the Radeon RX 9070 XT... Keeping in mind RADV+ACO is developed by engineers from Valve, Red Hat, Google, and the open-source community while AMD focuses much of their effort on AMDVLK.
With Grand Theft Auto 5 running on Linux via Steam Play, the RADV driver came out slightly ahead of the AMDVLK 2025.Q1.3 driver.
Or with the HITMAN game running under Steam Play, the game was hanging when running with AMDVLK but ran fine on the Mesa RADV driver.
With DiRT Rally 2.0 as another Windows game running on Linux via Steam Play, the RADV performance had a nice lead over the AMDVLK driver for both the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards.
Between these different Vulkan drivers and using the same Linux 6.14 kernel build, there wasn't much of a difference in the GPU power consumption except in some cases the minimum GPU power consumption when AMDVLK was engaged was higher than RADV.
