RISC-V CPU Performance Up 8x In Five Years: SiFive HiFive Unmatched To SpacemiT K3
As one would expect, it's a pretty dramatic difference for how far RISC-V CPU performance has come over the past five years with the hardware available in the marketplace.
Granted, as far as the RISC-V performance has evolved in the past five years, the K3 is still behind the latest Intel/AMD desktop CPUs or even the Raspberry Pi 5 and Loongson 3B6000 as shown in the prior K3 benchmarks. So significant further gains are still needed and expected over coming generations of RISC-V core designs for working to close that gap.
For purposes like code compilation, the SpacemiT K3 was more than 7x faster than the HiFive Unmatched. The K3 could work out much better for RISC-V build farms and the like for those not wanting to deal with emulated environments or the like.
The experience with the SpacemiT K3 is night and day compared to the HiFive Unmatched as the original RISC-V platform used for benchmarking at Phoronix.
