A Look At The Relative Spectre/Meltdown Mitigation Costs On Windows vs. Linux
Redis unfortunately didn't run on Clear Linux in this configuration, but for both Ubuntu and Windows the overhead of the Spectre and Meltdown mitigation was similar.
PostgreSQL is one of the real-world workloads having a noticeable impact with Spectre/Meltdown mitigation. With testing PostgreSQL with a read-only scenario, Clear Linux had the least impact followed by Ubuntu while Windows was noticeably slower.
Anyhow, those are the preliminary tests finished up today. Through the weekend I will continue running more Windows vs. Linux benchmarks on additional systems with a greater range of test profiles. Those interested can carry out their own similar tests with the Phoronix Test Suite.
