Exclusive Preview Of System76's Completely Redesigned Thelio Desktop
With System76's attention to design, when removing the front panel there weren't any fan cables to be found connected to the motherboard or power supply - a nice clean design with the side panel fans being powered via contacts built into the side panel.
There are filters on the bottom fan intakes.
The panels were also assisted by magnets in addition to the screws. The new Thelio also has a milled metal control bar and PCI brace, steel PEM fasteners for threaded connections, and other minor engineering enhancements to further enhance the ruggedness of this chassis for high-end desktops and workstations.
The new Thelio Mira is still being manufactured by System76 at their factory in Denver, Colorado. With their in-house, open-source hardware designs for the desktops/workstations they are quite unique compared to other off-the-shelf enclosures and further differentiating them in a class of their own for Linux hardware vendors.
It's all the more impressive they have been able to roll-out this brand new redesign as their team has been quite busy too on the software side with their recent COSMIC desktop release and shipping Pop!_OS 24.04.
👁 System76 Thelio new and old cases
The new System76 Thelio is a real modern industrial-quality beauty. From my initial hands on, the only complaint would be for those that preferred the natural and unique wood accent on the original Thelio. We'll also see next week with the official announcement how the pricing plays out for these custom Linux desktop computers. In any case, stay tuned to learn more about the next-generation System76 Thelio launching next week. Thanks to System76 for allowing this early preview on Phoronix.
