XMir will only be enabled by default for Ubuntu 13.10 systems with Intel, Radeon, or Nouveau open-source drivers. The binary AMD Catalyst and NVIDIA Linux graphics drivers will fallback to using a pure X.Org Server for lack of Mir compatibility. Open-source driver users can also modify their LightDM configuration to not use Mir / the unity-system-compositor.
