Across a variety of different benchmarks there was nice uplift running the System76 Thelio Astra with 128-core Ampere Altra Max on Ubuntu 25.04 compared to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. The gains in some of these were rather surprising considering how many years Ampere Altra has been around at this point and seeing many software optimizations over those years.

The geo mean improved by 20% when running the System76 Thelio Astra with Ubuntu 25.04 compared to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. This is a solid improvement for the mature Ampere Altra platform for those wanting to maximize the possible performance and not minding that Ubuntu 25.04 isn't a long-term support (LTS) release, which is less important anyhow for desktop/workstation use compared to ARM64 servers. Overall it was a nice experience running Ubuntu 25.04 ARM64 on the Ampere Altra powered System76 Thelio Astra.
