AMD EPYC On Ubuntu 18.10 Putting Up A Stronger Fight Against Xeon Gold

PostgreSQL (and database tests in general) have been one of the real-world workloads most affected by the Spectre/Meltdown mitigations. As you can see here, the EPYC 7601 on Ubuntu 18.10 now maintains a small lead over this dual Xeon Gold 6138 server configuration.

The Darktable threaded RAW imaging tests were a toss-up between these servers.

In the Octave benchmark as an open-source MATLAB alternative, the EPYC 7601 had a slight lead.

While in the Blender and V-RAY renderers that scale very well with increasing thread counts, the Xeon Gold CPUs understandably came in front.
