Lenovo ThinkPad T61 - Intel Core 2 Duo "Penryn"
Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS: 22 seconds
Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS: 15.00 seconds
Ubuntu 11.04: 21.99 seconds
Ubuntu 11.10: 21.91 seconds
Ubuntu 12.04: 26.46 seconds

With the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 notebook it is yet another different story: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is the slowest booting release tested -- even Ubuntu 8.04.4 and 10.04.4 were booting noticeably faster. It took over 26 seconds for this Intel Core 2 Duo notebook with a SATA HDD to boot while with 11.10 it was 21.91 seconds, 15 seconds for 10.04.4 LTS, and 22 seconds for 8.04.4 LTS. The peak disk throughput during the boot process for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was at its best of 75MB/s too.
