Workstation Benchmarks: Windows 7 vs. Ubuntu Linux

Ubuntu Linux finally had a win over Windows 7 Professional with the ThinkPad W510 notebook when it came to running the Pro/Engineer test on both platforms. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS wound up being 5% faster than Windows 7.
The results from the SolidWorks view-set were most interesting and that is where Ubuntu really managed to shine. Ubuntu 10.04 was surprisingly 53% faster than Windows 7 Professional with the sw-01 test in SPECViewPerf 10.0.
For the last workstation OpenGL test in these multi-platform benchmarks, the UGNX test did not favor one operating system over the other at least on the ThinkPad W510 with its Intel Core i7 CPU and NVIDIA Quadro FX mobile graphics.
