In various CPU benchmarks, WSL1 was performing better than WSL2 and was running comparable to the tested Linux distributions on the Core i7 8700K system.
In the case of large code compilation workloads like compiling the Linux kernel, WSL2 was much snappier than WSL1 due to the I/O involved.
Across many single and multi-threaded workloads, WSL2 was slower than WSL1 on this Intel Core i7 desktop.
