Russia's Novo-Ufimsky oil refinery has shut down one of its largest crude distillation units after a Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire.
Source: Reuters, citing three industry sources
Details: Over the past month, Ukraine has stepped up strikes on Russia's energy facilities in an effort to weaken the Russian economy.
"The CDU-5 distillation unit, which the sources say caught fire, accounts for around 28% of the Novo-Ufimsk refinery's total capacity," Reuters said. The plant has three other crude distillation units.
According to industry sources, in 2024, the plant processed 3.8 million tonnes of oil, or 76,000 barrels per day, accounting for 1.4% of Russia's total output. It produced 1.2 million tonnes of petrol, 2.6 million tonnes of diesel fuel and 1.1 million tonnes of fuel oil.
