Celebrating 50 Years
of Uniworld

Uniworld was founded, introducing American guests to unexpected and hidden gem destinations in Europe.

Uniworld became the first US brand
to take Americans on European river cruises.

The Main-Danube Canal was built, allowing us to become the the first company to offer a river cruise connecting Amsterdam to the Black Sea.

We led the way in expanding the river cruising industry to the vineyard-lined slopes of the Douro River Valley, the sparkling Venetian Lagoon, and extraordinary destinations outside of Europe. Once-in-a-lifetime destinations like India became instant favorites, allowing guests to explore off the beaten path while being completely taken care of every step of the way.

Uniworld joined The Travel Corporation (TTC), leveraging our new travel family’s hotel and hospitality experience to elevate our ships into Floating Boutique Hotels™.

Uniworld introduced the river cruise industry’s first personal butlers. An amenity for our Suite guests, personal butlers are dedicated to elevating your trip with thoughtful gestures and bespoke services. Want your luggage unpacked and repacked for you? Your laundry taken and returned neatly folded? Your shoes shined? In-room breakfast? Ask and you shall receive.

We launched our first Super Ship™—the S.S. Antoinette—elevating the meaning of “Floating Boutique Hotels” with grand entryways, multiple dining venues, and gorgeous decor. This ultra-luxurious fleet continued to expand in the following years, coming to represent the finest ships sailing the rivers of the world today.

We became the first river cruise line with Wellness Experts onboard. Trained massage therapists and fitness coaches, our Wellness Experts run our onboard spas and offer daily classes—think yoga on the sun deck or even an off-ship hike.

Our Cruise & Rail itineraries debuted to combine all the best aspects of luxury travel by land, water, and train. Today, you can travel by Cruise & Rail to the peaks of the Swiss Alps, the vineyards of Champagne, transcontinental Istanbul, the princely states of India, and more.

The world’s first Mystery Cruises took guests on one-of-a-kind journeys for which every detail, down to the destinations, were a surprise. After having sold out our first Mystery Cruise in under 24 hours, we’ve offered several more—and loved every single one.

We launched our first Rivers of the World cruise. The farthest-reaching itineraries in all of river cruising, these itineraries span multiple continents over several weeks to create a luxury odyssey unlike any other.

Uniworld turns 50 years old, and we couldn’t have done it without the hard work of our passionate team members and the loyalty of our wonderful guests. To celebrate, we’re sailing a special 50-night Rivers of the World cruise, a Golden President’s Cruise with CEO Ellen Bettridge, our first-ever Grand Mystery Cruise, and much more! We’re also thrilled to be launching the S.S. Emilie in 2026, followed by the S.S. Marlene and S.S. Audrey in 2027, and more beautiful ships to come!
