Niger continues to face a complex and protracted humanitarian crisis, fueled by heightened security challenges, recurring climate shocks, growing economic pressures, and migratory movements from neighbouring countries. These shocks have led to significant needs that must be addressed urgently.
The escalation of armed violence continues to force entire families to flee their homes and settle in safer areas. As of December 31, 2025, the country had 984,366 forcibly displaced persons (refugees and internally displaced persons), an increase of about 12 per cent compared to the same period in 2024.
Insecurity, forced displacement and climate shocks have left 3 million people in need of humanitarian aid across the country.
Insecurity and climate shocks including flooding have deeply affected people’s livelihoods and access to basic services and require urgent interventions to protect the most vulnerable.
Education remains particularly affected. More than 10 per cent of the country's schools are not functional, mainly in the Tillaberi Region.
The UN and our humanitarian partners – in support of the Government – have called for US$674 million to support 2 million people in the most affected regions of the country.
