“Yesterday’s meeting in Florida showed that both Ukraine and the United States want to achieve peace and are working toward it. The only party that remains uninterested in peace is Russia, which has shown no willingness whatsoever to abandon the objectives that led it to launch its aggression — the destruction of Ukraine’s sovereignty and the reshaping of Europe’s security architecture. Just over the past weekend, we saw Russia devastate residential areas of Ukrainian cities and the country’s energy infrastructure through air strikes,” said Foreign Minister Tsahkna.
“Until Russia demonstrates a genuine readiness for a just and lasting peace, all efforts must continue to be focused on supporting Ukraine and applying even stronger pressure on the aggressor in order to force it to finally take negotiations seriously,” the Foreign Minister added.
“Ukraine must be provided with military assistance so that it can withstand the aggressor on the battlefield and protect its cities from Russia’s drone and missile attacks. At the same time, the European Union is working on a 20th sanctions package to limit Russia’s ability to continue the war economically. Work must also continue on developing the details of security guarantees, as only strong security guarantees can ensure that Russian aggression does not recur. Europe must take a leading role in providing security guarantees and contribute real military capabilities, while the involvement of the United States is also essential. Estonia already announced in the spring its readiness to contribute, within a coalition of the willing, up to a company-sized unit, as well as training personnel and staff officers,” Tsahkna said.
